Recommended colors from Ugly Duckling are are 100.10, 100.11 for high lift colors and 10A, 9A for regular ash blonde hair colors.

Once again the trick is to choose a dye which contains enough Ash to neutralize the undertones that occur naturally in hair. Only this time, on dark natural hair, the undercoat is orange, not yelow! Once again, using ash helps fight the brassiness. Ugly Duckling's 6A does fight brassiness thanks to enhanced ash pigments.

6. I Tried to Get a Light Ash Blonde Hair Dye But It Came Out Too Warm. Why?

Hair comes out "too warm" mainly because the hair has not been lifted enough to take out the hair's natural warm pigments. As mentioned before, if your client's hair level is less than blonde, or level 7, you do need to use bleach to lift it up to the correct level.

So basically, to sum up:

  1. You need to get your hair very, very blonde. To avoid even a hint of yellowness, we are going to suggest that you aim for a level 10.

  2. You need to get your hair very very ash. Generally speaking, as you lift your hair color you are still left with an underlying residue which is either orangish, or yellowish.

The answer to this is "yes". Hair does have a tendency to go brassy over time with exposure to sun, repeated brushings and daily wear and tear. And as your roots grow out there will definitely come a time when a refresh will be required.

9. When I go Back to the Salon for a Refresh of My Ash Blonde Hair, What Should My Stylist Do?
